Biggest Heist in Karachi’s History: Rs 300 Million Gold Stolen from Jewelry Shop in Orangi Town

A major burglary described as one of the largest in the history of Karachi has shocked residents after thieves broke into a jewelry shop and escaped with gold and diamonds worth more than Rs 300 million, police confirmed.

Massive Break-In at Iqbal Market

The incident took place in Iqbal Market, where unknown burglars allegedly drilled through the wall of a well-known jewelry store and stole over 606 tolas of gold along with diamonds valued at more than Rs 2.5 million. Authorities say the scale of the theft makes it one of the biggest jewelry heists ever reported in the city.

FIR Registered Against Unknown Suspects

A case has been registered against unidentified suspects on the complaint of the shop owner, Ayub Khan. Police have launched a formal investigation and are examining all possible leads, including CCTV footage obtained from the scene.

How the Crime Was Discovered

According to the complainant, the shop was closed by workers on the night of February 12 as usual. When staff reopened the store on the morning of February 14, they found several jewelry boxes empty. The owner rushed to the shop after receiving a call and discovered that the rear wall had been broken, confirming a carefully planned break-in.

He told police that approximately 7,064 grams of gold belonging to the shop were missing, along with diamonds and other valuables. Some of the stolen items reportedly belonged to customers, increasing the financial impact of the crime.

CCTV Footage Reveals Suspects’ Method

CCTV footage shows a thin-built suspect attempting multiple times to enter the shop through a hole in the wall. Initially, the opening was too small, and the intruder appeared to get stuck while trying to enter head-first. The suspect later widened the hole and entered feet-first.

The footage also shows the suspect covering his face with cloth and placing fabric over the camera immediately after entering, indicating prior knowledge of camera placement and the store’s layout.

Police Launch Full Investigation

Following the registration of the case, police initiated a detailed probe, including forensic analysis and technical evidence collection. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby shops and streets to trace the suspects’ escape route.

Government Orders Immediate Action

Sindh Interior Minister Zia‑ul‑Hasan Lanjar has taken notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the SSP West. He directed authorities to form special teams to ensure the swift arrest of those involved and recovery of the stolen property.

The minister emphasized the use of CCTV analysis, forensic evidence, and modern investigative techniques to track down the culprits. He also ordered enhanced security measures for jewelry markets and sensitive commercial centers across the city.

Security Concerns Rise Among Traders

The incident has raised serious concerns among traders and business owners, many of whom are now calling for improved surveillance, better policing, and stricter nighttime security protocols in commercial areas.

Investigation Ongoing

Police say the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made so far. Authorities remain confident that with the available footage and forensic evidence, the suspects will be identified and apprehended.
